ABout Escapade

Escapade

M/V Escapade (the “M/V” stands for motor vessel, S/V stands for sailing vessel) is a raised pilothouse “blue water”
displacement trawler.  She was built by Jet Tern Marine in Dong Guan, Canton, China in 2000, and was originally branded a “Solo 43”.  In about 2002, the entire line of Solo trawlers was re-branded “Selene”.

Escapade is 43’-6” on deck, with an overall length of 47’-7” and a waterline length of 40’-10”.  Her beam over the rub rail is 15’-8” and her full load displacement is 56,100 pounds.  (Her half-load displacement is about 50,000 pounds.)  She carries 3,000 pounds of ballast.  Her bridge clearance is 25’.  Her half-load draft is about 5’-1”.  We know, having been aground on more than one occasion.

Escapade has 4 water-tight compartments.  She carries about 260 gallons of potable water and has a 45 gallon black water (sewerage)holding tank.  We can replenish water used with a 20 gallon per hour water-maker.

Below, are two staterooms and two heads.  The master
stateroom is in the bow with a queen size birth and an en-suite head.
The guest state room is to port aft of the master stateroom with two bunks, over and under.  Opposite the guest stateroom is a combination day head/guest head.  Escapade was designed for a cruising couple with occasional guests, which
makes her a perfect choice for us.

Four steps up are the saloon and a centerline galley above the engine compartment.  A door opens from the saloon
onto the cockpit.  Beneath the saloon and aft of the engine compartment is a commissary for storage.
Additional storage is in a lazarette beneath the cockpit sole, and under the berths and settees.

Four steps up from the saloon is the pilot house, and four steps up from there are the fly bridge and boat deck.

Escapade is powered by a single mechanically controlled
6BT5.9M 180 hp Cummins turbo-diesel, rated for medium continuous duty.  She carries about 975 gallons of fuel.  Practically, she has about a 2000 nautical mile range at a cruise speed of 7.5 knots (about 8.7 statute miles/hr), 10% reserve, with normal gen-set utilization. Slowing to an ocean-crossing speed of about 5.0 knots increases the range to about 3000 nautical miles, making her theoretically capable of an around-the-world cruise, but this is not in our plan.

Escapade has a 12 kW Westerbeke gen-set, Naiad hydraulic active fin stabilizers, 950 A-Hr house battery bank, bow thruster, a fuel polishing system, three 16,000 Btu reverse cycle heating/air conditioning units, washer/dryer, galley Norcold refrigerator/freezer, a separate Grunert holding-plate deep freeze, and an ice maker.
