Our Cruising Adventures
Our Cruising Adventures
We are Ken and Linda. Thank you for visiting us aboard Escapade. We hope that you will follow the adventures of Escapade and her crew as we prepare for, and make our way down the ICW (InterCostal Waterway) to the Bahamas, and possibly beyond.
Ken retired on September 30, 2009, although he has accepted a few consulting assignments, here and there. Linda has begun winding down her consulting business and plans to completely retire in the August 2010. We have sold our home in suburban Washington, DC and moved aboard Escapade on July 15, 2010. If all goes as we plan, we will leave on our first extended retirement cruise in late September 2010 aboard our trawler M/V Escapade. We encourage you to investigate our “Links” page where you will find the web-sites of friends who are currently cruising or have recently cruised the Bahamas.
In 2011, we plan to begin the design and construction of our retirement home in St. Marys, GA, cruise the US South-East coast, and make an additional trip to the Bahamas. We have heard that the St. Marys River, St Johns River, and southern Georgia / Northern Florida from Brunswick, Ga. to St Augustine Fla. are wonderful cruising grounds.
As we gain experience and confidence, we may extend our cruising grounds to include the Canadian Maritimes, the Caribbean, the US Gulf Coast, and the Mexican Gulf Coast.
As a counterpoint, we have many friends who planned elaborate long distance cruises to everywhere imaginable, including the South Pacific and South America. Yet, year after year, they keep returning to the Bahamas, and few have even explored the southern islands of the Bahamas chain. With over 700 islands in the Bahamas, one could spend a lifetime there. Our initial Bahamas plan is to visit The Berry Islands, Eleuthera, the Exumas, and the Abacos.
We also look forward to the US Government lifting its travel ban to Cuba, which we are hopeful, will occur in the next few years. We have friends who have already purchased navigation charts.
While Escapade may be capable of crossing oceans, this is not in our plans.
We anticipate that communications may be difficult while cruising. We plan to use this web-site to facilitate sharing our travels and adventures with family and friends. We hope that you find this web-site interesting and will become a regular visitor. If you have suggestions on the design or content of this site, please e-mail those to us.
We are also posting information about ourselves, Escapade, and other information, which may be of interest to family, and old and new friends.

✓Hurricane Earl, while came close, turned out to be benign.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
-- Mark Twain
Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
